Remember the days when you needed to wear a watch in order to tell time instantly?  Yeah, me neither. Sitting at my computer at this moment, I can find the current time in three places – the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen, on my smart phone sitting on my desk, and on the big (mostly decorative) clock on the wall.  The necessity for a watch is quickly approaching that of a rolodex or a typewriter—unless you’re wearing an Apple Watch.

The new Apple Watch not only keeps time within 50 milliseconds of the global time standard but offers so much more.  Now you can communicate with your friends and family in more personal and fun ways. This watch can send animated emojis, personal doodled messages and even your heartbeat to a friend. But why in the world would you want to do that? This watch uses a physical notification alert system that gently taps your wrist with each incoming call or message. You can use the Apple Watch to read emails, summon Siri, take calls and keep up with social media all without taking your smartphone out of your pocket. This gadget can track your fitness some say better than a fitbit. It shows your progress and learns your activity and fitness level and uses that information to suggest personalized all-day activity goals. Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal says, “The Apple Watch succeeds where the fitness trackers have failed. Not only does it provide more accurate data and a platform with big promise, but it’s an accessory I love to wear all day long.”

There are three different stylish collections of the Apple Watch: the Apple Watch Sport, the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Edition. All collections come in two sizes, measured by height (1.5in) and width(1.65in) and offer interchangeable colored or metal bands.

“The fashion world is already embracing it. The fashion world loves innovation, the fashion world loves new- by the very virtue of what we do in this industry, we change what we see every six months. So this is something that’s interesting. The Apple mystique is something that people love in the world of fashion. I think it does look good, it’s smart, it’s fun.-Yahoo Style Editor in Chief Joe Zee.

The Apple Watch will be released on April 24 and can be pre-ordered on April 10th.  The prices range from $349 all the way up to $17,000.  Apple will be taking appointments to try on this long awaited device so no need to camp out overnight at an Apple location.

Is this the next best, life changing technology to make our lives easier or will it be a new device to distract people from living in the moment? Will it be one more way for people to ignore each other?

It seems to me the new cutting edge Apple Watch is a super cool device that does a lot, but it is hardly one that you really ”need” the way you “need” your smartphone. So if you’ve got money burning a hole in your pocket, the Apple Watch is something fun and exciting to own that you can brag to your friends about.   Geez, look at the time. Gotta run!
